Photographs by J. L. Jones

These few pages are the first outing for my work. However, the site will be evolving and the art changing with time. These few prints, some of which are scans of contact prints, are not indicative of a fine, hand refined print. My ugly mug My printed portfolio has in the last two or three years suffered greatly due to physical damage, loss, theft etc. Also I have not had a darkroom for the last couple of years due to a move and some other factors. That should be changing soon, at which time individually made, archival, mounted prints will be available. And, as I said, I will be updating the artwork with better quality prints, replacing some I don't have on hand now as well as printing some of the stacks of negatives I have not as yet printed.

I bought my first serious camera over 20 years ago, and have been honing my craft ever since. I work primarily in 4X5 inch format, although I do use some 2&1/4 inch square as well as 35mm formats. My primary camera is hand made (by me) from a Bender kit. It is simple though very capable. I prefer Schneider optics, and have one Caltar lens. As funds allow I add needed glass and am always on the lookout for good used optics. However, although it's obvious that I'm not starving, spare change is a scarce commodity.

I hope you like what you see and I would like to hear your input (but please be gentile). This site is intentionally kept simple so that the pages will load quickly with any browser and modem. Later I may add some Java and more advanced HTML and graphics but there are still a lot of old browsers and 14.4 modems out there.

By the way, that's my ugly mug on rope in the photo (Photo courtesy of Tom Moss).
